Mission

Deficits in symbolic functioning such as functional changes in communication, delays in language development, in reading and Math, among others, represent a substantial challenge for the individuals affected by them, their families and communities. They can be a result of neurological/ developmental disorders, of an impoverished environment (or both), as well as of an interaction with other variables.

Independently of its etiology, successful prevention and treatment must be based on high-quality scientific research. In alignment with this proposal, INCT-ECCE is a network that integrates basic, translational and applied research in a multi-institutional program that is coherent, highly productive and focused on different aspects of symbolic functioning. Our mission is to produce valid and reliable scientific evidence that can be used in behavioral technology for teaching procedures, that can be applied in the prevention and treatment of functional delays/ deficits in symbolic functioning, especially in children.
